Day of the Dead Celebration: An Evening of Light with Our Departed

October 22nd, 2026 / 6:00–9:30pm

In our culture, we often avoid speaking of the dead—fearing it might darken the mood or make others uncomfortable. But this silence comes at a cost: we miss the chance to remember the love we shared and keep their presence alive in our hearts.

For years, I’ve hosted a Day of the Dead celebration with family and friends, inspired by the Mexican Dia de los Muertos —a tradition that embraces death not with sorrow, but with warmth, stories, and connection. Many hesitate at first, worried that revisiting grief might reopen wounds. Yet, time and again, people leave with lighter hearts, stronger bonds, and a sense of joy in remembering.

This year, I’m opening the circle to our yoga and meditation community. Together, we’ll create an evening to honor those who have passed, not through tears alone, but through laughter, stories, and shared presence.

How the Celebration Unfolds

Bring a photograph of your loved one, flowers to honor them, and an offering—something they cherished in life: a favorite chocolate, wine, song, or game. We’ll share stories, move our bodies, and enjoy music and wine as the moment allows. Grief, when held in community, becomes easier to carry. Sometimes, all we need is to be heard.

She teaches because she believes it is not what you do in life, but how you do it that matters.
